The Maia Baudelaire Foundation is a humanitarian organization created in 2019 that works worldwide to help the most vulnerable populations. Born from the will of its founder, Maïa Baudelaire, to work for a fairer world, it carries out actions primarily in Nepal but also in Morocco.
The Maïa Baudelaire Foundation is housed by the Fondation de France.
The life story of its founder, Maia Baudelaire, who comes from a family of expatriate parents, quickly learned to open up to the world and different cultures. She subsequently dedicated herself for years to humanitarian work and health.
The objective of the Foundation is to help the most disadvantaged people by reducing social inequalities and supporting ambitious projects.
In Nepal, the Maia Baudelaire Foundation is very active in the village of Khokana, where it is carrying out several humanitarian projects.
This one, close to the Nepalese capital, has remained very traditional but suffers from its poverty. The lack of infrastructure and its agricultural lifestyle are to blame. As a result, there is a high illiteracy rate, numerous physical ailments among its inhabitants, and very few future prospects for its children.
During the global COVID-19 pandemic, Khokana was heavily impacted, and the foundation began by organizing food distributions to its poorest populations, in partnership with a local association, Sahayogi Nepal. Since then, the foundation has been working in partnership with this association with the aim of improving the quality of life for the village’s residents. If the majority of our objectives are humanitarian and consequently localized, we also wish to invest on a larger scale, particularly through cultural projects.
Following the organization of food distributions, the project began to expand, starting with the creation of a school for the village children. Founded in 2021, it now offers quality education for free to the 250 children who attend it.
In the spring of 2022, a clinic was established in the village, allowing for regular check-ups and providing medication to those in need.
It was at the end of the summer of 2022 that an artistic residency project came to life in the village. Aimed at preserving and developing Nepalese musical culture, this project aspires to attract artists from all over the country to promote this culture nationally and internationally.
Although most of the foundation’s projects are concentrated in this village, other projects take place elsewhere, particularly in Morocco, where the distribution of food supplies to the most disadvantaged families in the village of Douar Laarab is regularly organized.

In short, the food distributions by the Maia Baudelaire Foundation are an important project to help the most vulnerable populations in the region. This aid is provided regularly and coordinated with the other programs of the Foundation, such as the school and the clinic, in order to create a chain of solidarity and support for the local populations.
Finally, through a volunteer program, we give French representatives the opportunity to accompany the children and the teaching staff by offering fun activities and even language courses for the more skilled.
Several volunteers have already been welcomed, with very positive results for both the children and the volunteers in question.
