One of the major initiatives implemented by the Maïa Baudelaire Foundation is the creation of the Maia Academy, a school for underprivileged children in the village of Khokana.
In collaboration with the Sahayogi Nepal association and funded by the foundation, the Maia Academy was built in 2021 to provide a safe and free learning space for more than 250 children aged 2 to 12. Built in the context of a pandemic, it welcomes children from the poorest families in the region, most of whom do not have access to education. The Maia Academy was designed to provide a quality education to these children and to give them the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in life.
The construction of the school began in June 2021 and was completed in November of the same year. The members of the Maia Baudelaire Foundation and the Sahayogi Nepal association worked closely together to build a school that meets French safety standards. Furthermore, the school is optimized in terms of energy thanks to the use of insulating and durable materials. The architects also took into account the frequency of earthquakes in this region of the world, using earthquake-resistant materials to ensure the safety of the students.
The school offers a comprehensive educational program that includes courses in mathematics, science, English, and Nepali, as well as a computer class equipped with modern computers. Led by a carefully selected teaching team to ensure an education comparable to European standards, we make sure they develop in the healthiest possible environment.
The students benefit from a free meal at the school cafeteria for lunch and snacks, as well as regular school outings to discover the world around them. These outings may include visits to the Kathmandu Zoo, outdoor activities, or sports activities.
If you wish to contribute to the Maia Academy, you can sponsor a child by filling out the form available on the « sponsor a child » page of the Maia Baudelaire Foundation’s website.
Your sponsorship will help provide this education to a child, while maintaining a special relationship with them. Through the foundation, you will be able to exchange messages, get a regular glimpse into their daily life, or even meet in person.
Finally, through a volunteer program, we give French representatives the opportunity to accompany the children and the teaching staff by offering fun activities and even language courses for the more skilled.
Several volunteers have already been welcomed, with very positive results for both the children and the volunteers in question.

In short, the food distributions by the Maia Baudelaire Foundation are an important project to help the most vulnerable populations in the region. This aid is provided regularly and coordinated with the other programs of the Foundation, such as the school and the clinic, in order to create a chain of solidarity and support for the local populations.
